Japow

Chasing Japan’s Legendary Powder Snow

What is Japow?

The renowned dry, thick powder snow that covers Japan's mountains every winter, particularly in January and February, is referred to as "Japow" (or "Japowder"). Japow regularly provides one of the world's deepest and most dependable snowpacks, whether it's in the winter wonderland of Hokkaido or the rugged terrain of the Japanese Alps. Just like I first heard the phrase "Japow" 11,000 miles away from Japan, long before I pursued it myself, powder seekers go thousands of miles to experience it.

The Backcountry Magic of Japan

With its combination of ancient forests, stunning alpine scenery, and waist-deep powder, Japan's backcountry is unmatched. Our guided small-group ski and snowboard tours are designed for riders who want more than just lift lines. Unspoiled landscapes, unadulterated adrenaline, and a genuine introduction to Japanese mountain living are all provided by these experiences. In order to create a comprehensive cultural experience, we venture beyond the slopes to local eateries, boutique hotels, and traditional hot spring onsens.

An Immersive Ski Touring Adventure

You will travel across the powder-rich northern prefectures of Aomori and Iwate on our backcountry-focused adventures. To guarantee a seamless, engaging experience, our 9-day excursions are guided by IFMGA-certified English-speaking guides who are assisted by multilingual assistants. During the day, you will ski top-notch snow; at night, you will recuperate in hot springs, enjoy real Japanese food, and converse over sake and craft beer in historic inns.

Why Japow is Worth the Journey

Japow is more than simply snow; it's an adventure and cultural experience. With its exceptional combination of top-notch powder, classic Japanese friendliness, and stunning scenery, Japan is a top choice for skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. Japow is more than just skiing; it's an adventure into the purest form of winter, whether it's in the peaks of Iwate, the ancient woods of Aomori, or the secluded backcountry of Furano.
